Steven’s students performed various songs as part of his 10th year Holiday Sharing at the Neighborhood Playhouse. To put everyone in the holiday spirit, the songs included: We Need A Little Christmas paired with a scene from As you Like it; Winter Wonderland combined with The Twelve Days of Christmas; What I did For Love tagged with Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas; Just The Way You Are (Bruno Mars) coupled with Stand By Me (Lieber and Stoller) and a tag of Silent Night (The first “mash up” at the Playhouse. Steven’s colleague David had his students perform Consider Yourself and Alone in the Universe. For more information, click here.

RISK! is where people tell true stories they never thought they’d dare to share. It’s a live show and an audio podcast free on iTunes. RISK! is hosted by Kevin Allison of the sketch comedy group The State. The podcast includes not just stories recorded at the live show, but studio-recorded stories and original music from artists all over the world. Since starting in October of 09, the podcast has had nearly a million downloads and featured such guests as Marc Maron, Janeane Garofalo and Michael Ian Black.

Steven’s children’s show (The Adventures of the Christmas Elf) and holiday show (It Happened On Christmas Eve) will both be performed in Westchester County in the beginning of December. More details to follow!

“The Adventures of The Christmas Elf,” will be presented on December 10, 11, 12 produced by the Actors Conservatory Theatre. It is the third year that ELF is being produced. Music by Steven Silverstein, Lyrics by Barbara Campbell, Book by Bob Fitzsimmons

Starting today, Steven’s song Catskilla’s Revenge (written with lyricist Stephen Cole, and performed by Stephen Cole) will be heard on the “Lunch and Judy Show,” a syndicated radio show in honor of Halloween! This song was written for Miami Beach Monsters (1999) performed at Queens Theater in the Park with legendary Robert Fitch! Steven played piano for the actors garage. It is a open class where students can drop in on a moment’s notice. They can bring a monologue, a scene, a song — something that they are auditioning for. I was honored to music direct Christine Pedi at the Cab Calloway Lifetime Achievement Awards at Westchester Broadway Theatre tonight. We performed her wonderful parody of “And I Am Telling You I’m Not Going,” and “Music That Makes Me Dance All Night,” a combo of two songs that Ms. Pedi performed in musicals (Funny Girl & My Fair Lady) with honoree Jeff Scott. Steven provided incidental and underscoring to the honorees speeches. Steven’s good friends Chloe and Phil Sasson were some of the honorees.

I just returned from Greeley Colorado’s Union Colony Civic Center where I served as music director for the UNEXPECTED BOYS under the direction of Brian Noonan featuring Don Brewer, Caleb Damschroder and Ryan J. Ratliff. Working with four fantastic musicians from Denver, CO the boys performed classic songs like “Oh What A Night,” and “Let’s Hang on.”

My friend and colleague Nancy Hillman is doing a new revue in August in Yelm WA with her group STAGESTRUCK PLAYERS called “Listen To Me.” (Go to multimedia section to hear the kids of the Neighborhood Playhouse sing it) The title song was written by Steven Silverstein & David Madore for the Neighborhood Playhouse Juniors School. The show will be presented on August 26, 27, 28 and 29. Steven’s song “Could I Ever Be The One,” (John Treacy Egan’s version of the song is also in the multimedia section of my website) is scheduled to be featured in the revue.

The show is about a group of ambitious and diverse young people who compete to win first prize in the local literary contest.. by presenting original performance pieces on the subject of the evolution of communication through the ages. They are daunted, urged on critiqued and inspired by a motley group of local judges, and their own personal internal grudges. No one , not even the cast, knows who the winner will be! Steven’s song Capture A Queen (lyrics by Blake Hackler) was included in a reading of a new musical Ten Reasons I Won’t Go Home With You written by Kelly Nichols on April 6 at Space 1 on White Street. The cast included Bridget Barnet Dunn, Benjamin Holmes, Edward Campbell, Ryan Stadler, Mark Dunn and Kelly Nichols with Liz Gerbi on the piano. Other contributing composers and lyricists included Bobby Cronin, Andrew Byrne, Jason Purdy and Philllip Chernyak. Steven and his writing partner Andrew Zachary Cohen in collaboration with Jason Michael Butler made some musical changes to ON THE STAGE! on June 1, 2010. so it can live in a cabaret setting.

In honor of Steven’s tenth year at the Playhouse (2000-2010), today’s ensemble number for the ENTIRE junior school (groups A,B,C,D, and E/F) will be the students and Steven’s adaptation of The Rhythm of Life (from the musical Sweet Charity). Last year the kids presented an original piece Listen To Me (written with David John Madore), which can be found on Steven’s multimedia page. Past ensemble numbers included: Heatwave and Nine to Five.

Steven was proud to play piano at the Friar’s Club in NYC last night. It was for a surprise party for the wife (Lori) of Inner Circle Member Marvin Scott (of WPIX). In the audience, were composer Jack Urbont (who composed the Theme from General Hospital). It was really cool playing in the Milton Berle room and eating in the Lucille Ball room!
