Drew Fornarola and Steven Silverstein’s “CHRISTMAS WITH THE INLAWS” will be performed by Regina O’Malley (Blood Brothers) at the Donnell Library Christmas Concert, produced by John Znidarsic. Steven is currently music directing THE ADVENTURES OF THE CHRISTMAS ELF. The show was produced at The Westchester Broaday Theater in 1991 with book by Bob Fitzsimmons and Music by Steven & Lyrics by Barbara Campbell. The current production is being produced by the Actors Conservatory Theater and Directed by Armand Paganelli with Steven P. Riedel as Santa Claus (from Westchester Community College). For more information call 914-391-6558 (Dates are Dec 8 and Dec 9). Steven co-produced the orchestral accompanying CD that will be used at the show. Two of the selections (That’s Christmas and A Little Bit More) have been recorded by Christopher Hanke (CRY BABY) and John Jellison (most recently, WALMARTOPIA). Audio MP3’s are linked below!

 

Steven served as sub rehearsal pianist for the Time Warner Singers last night for their annual concert on December 19th. The conductor was Beth Knauer and rehearsal pianist was David Strickland. The arrangements and the singers are top notch. Songs rehearsed included a Manhattan Transfer arrangement of The Christmas Song.

Steven is very proud to announce that Gretchen Reinhagen will be performing arrangements of How HIgh the Moon/Anything goes and Just in Time (from her recently performed “Back to Basics”) when she heads out to her family’s home town of Indio, CA for a very special performance of “Back to Basics” on December 22nd @ the Indio Performing Arts Center. Musical Director for this special event will be long-time Reinhagen family friend and musical collaborator John Salerno. This show is a fundraiser for the Coachella Valley High School’s Visual and Performing Arts Academy. Gretchen so beautifully sang my song STRONG WIND, with lyrics by Ruth Williamson that helped Steven get a nomination for a MAC award!

Steven’s student Hannah Shankman was recently hired as Maureen in the National Tour of Rent!!!! Also, Steven’s gig at Bob Egan’s Cosmopolitan Club in New Hope, PA, with Steven Brimberg (simply Barbra Streisand) was cancelled because the club was unexpected closed. Check here for future dates!

 

October 22, 2007 

Steven will be appearing on an upcoming episode of GOSSIP GIRL – sometime after Thanksgiving. In the episode, he plays a “pianist!” at a rehearsal for a debutant ball. Included in the episode as the Mistress of Ceremonies is Broadway performer Beth Fowler (the original Mrs. Potts in Beauty & The Beast.) The episode #109 was filmed at 80 Fifth Avenue on the Penthouse. The music heard in the scene is called The Secret by The Pierces. The episode, entitled, “Hi, Society” is scheduled to air on 11/28.

Steven is proud to announce the debut of a new song written with a new collaborator Andy Zachary Cohen, graduate of NYU’s writing program. The song “BACK TO BOBBY,” will be presented at the Donnell Library (20 West 53rd) in the Songbook program entitled Tomorrow’s Broadway TODAY directed by John F. Znidarsic on October 30 at 6pm. Steven is scheduled to play for Christine Pedi, (from Forbidden Broadway and, most recently, Talk Radio) who is hosting the Cab Calloway Lifetime Achievement Awards on Monday 9/24/07 at Westchester Broadway Theater in Elmsford, NY. Also scheduled to perform include Robert Hager (Spring Awakening) and Craig Schulman (Phantom of the Opera and Les Miserables). Christine is scheduled to perform her renditions of “I’m Not Going,” “I Dreamed A Dream,” and “When You’re Good To Mama.”

Steven Silverstein played piano again on the Joey Reynolds show (WOR 710 AM) live on 9/4/07 at 1 AM with guest performer Neva Small. Steven is currently subbing on Neva’s show “Not Just An Ingenue” at the Actors Temple. On Joey Reynold’s show, Neva sang Amanda McBrooms’s song Portrait. In addition, Neva and Steven created a parody for Joey Reynolds, to the tune of Tradition.

On August 3, the Neighborhood Playhouse Junior School Summer Intensive presented Take Your Turn! with songs (How To Pass the SATs?; What’s My Cue; and Time to Take Your Turn) co-written by Steven and David John Madore.
The piece was directed by Darleen Jaeger Hickok with Choreography by Heather LoSchiavo.

Steven Silverstein & Ruth Williamson will present three of their songs as part of THE MAC/ASCAP CABARET SHOWCASE at The Laurie Beechman Theatre at The West Bank Cafe at 407 West 42nd Street on June 6th at 6 PM with special guest Carol Hall. Songs scheduled to presented will be Path You Choose (sung by John Treacy Egan), Strong Wind and Mother Nature’s Lament (sung by Gretchen Reinhagen). Other songwriters that evening include Robert Maddock & Joe Iconis and Benj Pasek & Justin Paul.

On June 2nd, Steven will be music director for John Treacy Egan solo cabaret act with special guest Renee Feder (soon to be seen in the Broadway musical Young Frankenstein). John will be in the new Disney musical The Little Mermaid opening on Broadway in the Fall of 2007. Steven created the arrangements with fellow musicians Kerry Meads and Paul Ivory. John & Renee are performing How’d You Like To Love Me and The Prayer together. John will be opening the show with Orange Colored Sky. It will be at the Westchester Country Club.

Tonight Steven provided background music for the premiere broadcast of “At Martha’s Table,” with Martha Stewart, at Sirius Radio. On this broadcast, Martha interviewed chef Jean-Georges. Steven played Martha’s favorite classical music — music of Chopin, Beethoven, Vivaldi, Verdi and Bach.

Steven played piano on March 26 at the Kaplan Penthouse in the Samuel Rose Building at Lincoln Center. The recipient of the Abbott Awards this year is Dan Sullivan currently represented on Broadway in Prelude To A Kiss. The Awards are being presented by SSDC (Society of Stage Directors and Choreographers).

I wanted to extend an invite to you all to come out and catch the latest performances of “Redefined” the first weekend of March @ Don’t Tell Mama (343 W46th St., NYC, 212-757-0788). I am again the Musical Director and Gretchen and I are bringing the show back one more time. Show times are Saturday, March 3rd @ 4pm & Sunday, March 4th at 8pm. Steven just conducted a second seminar of his FEARLESS AUDITION at Pima Community College. It took place in the recital hall of the West Campus in Tuscon Arizona on February 24 from 10-3:30. There were twelve participants. One of Pima�s students from last year is in the last four contestants on the Reality Grease show.

Steven is the music director of a new staged reading of “Sleep With Me,” a play with music by Jim Shankman. It is on Friday January 26th at 8 pm. For reservations, call: 212-645-1525. The cast includes Steve Friedman, Brian McFadden, Maura Molloy and Jenny Neale. It is a black comedy that takes place in Hollywood in 1938 when Louis B. Mayer of MGM is desperately trying to get Shirley Temple to play Dorothy in the Wizard of Oz.
